Strategy of Tibetans should be to start world wide campaign against Chinese ways

By NS Venkataraman*

It is now more than seven decades since Chinese military invaded Tibet and massacred thousands of Tibetan protesters. As Tibet has been traditionally a peaceful country, dedicated to Buddhist philosophy of non violence , the resistant movement of Tibetans could not match the Chinese aggressors. It is a black spot in the world history that peaceful Tibet was allowed to be virtually slaughtered by the Chinese invaders, while entire world community looked the other way for all practical purposes.
Of course, India is one of the countries which ignored the plight of Tibetans and the Indian conscience is pricking even today for the failure of the then Indian government to protest against the Chinese aggression. Like adding fuel to fire, India did the Himalayan mistake of approving the Chinese occupation of Tibet. All that India did for Tibet was to permit His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his supporters and suffering Tibetans to enter Indian territory as refugees.
India is now paying the price for it’s historical mistake of approving Chinese occupation of Tibet. Having occupied Tibet, now China has common border with India in several areas and is constantly threatening to occupy Indian territory and is claiming Arunachal Pradesh as part of China’s territory.
Apart from India, western democratic countries , primarily USA also let down Tibet in the hour of crisis and only extended lip support. Later on, US tried to help Tibetans to organize sort of guerilla war against Chinese in Tibet but abruptly withdrew the support for whatever reasons. Now, on and off, USA pays lip support to Tibet, and announces some cosmetic resolutions and it is not doing anything more significant for Tibet for all practical purposes.
Left to themselves, Tibetans have formed a government in exile operating from India and this government in exile is yet to cause any serious concern to China about Tibet’s independence movement. Meanwhile, with the elapse of several decades after Chinese occupation, many Tibetans who faced the brutality of the Chinese military have passed away . New generation of Tibetans now living in Tibet are being systematically brain washed by the Chinese government , forcing them to think that Tibet has no claim as independent nation.
Many of the Tibetans who are outside Tibet have migrated to other countries and substantial number of them have become citizens of some other country. Though Tibetan blood and spirit may be there in them, most of them essentially have to pledge their loyalty to other country, where they have attained citizenship.
The question is where would Tibet go from here.
In spite of above conditions , the hope and fervent desire for Tibet to emerge as independent country sooner or later is still very much there. To achieve this much needed independence , Tibetans , wherever they are and whichever the country of their present citizenship , have to keep in focus and constantly remember the glory and pride of their motherland Tibet.
In the recent time, isolated groups of Tibetans are still protesting against Chinese occupation wherever possible and quite a number of Tibetans have also self immolated themselves to spread worldwide awareness about the plight of Tibet under the control of merciless Chinese government and shake the conscience of the world community. In view of these soft strategies , it has been ensured that the world has not forgotten Tibet and it’s cause , though this is much against the wishes of the Chinese government. What is required now is that the Tibetans have to intensify their struggle for freedom by more aggressive campaign against Chinese government’s greed , lack of ethical considerations and expansionist strategies.
All that is required is that Tibetans should start speaking not only for the cause of Tibet but also for the cause of every other country , which are now threatened by Chinese government by it’s aggressive territorial expansion claims.
Tibetans should become the voice of the world to expose China’s greed and aggressive strategies , for which Tibet is the standing example.
Certainly, Tibetans are the most appropriate people to initiate and continue such world wide campaign to expose the Chinese government’s expansionist policies , as Tibet is the first victim of Chinese brutality in the 20th century and the Tibetans have been the most oppressed and suffering people at the hands of the Chinese military.
There are countries like Taiwan , Japan , Philippines, India who face issues with China due to China’s territorial claims. There are countries like Sri Lanka, Pakistan and number of countries in Africa which are now sought to be brought under control by Chinese government by extending loan to them and by implementing it’s One Belt One Road strategy. There are many nations which are scared of Chinese government today due to it’s economic and military power and it’s greed and do not want to antagonize Chinese government in anyway. Nevertheless, they would be happy to hear a world wide voice that would checkmate Chinese government’s aggressive plans and methods, which , otherwise, could become a threat to world peace and territorial integrity of several nations.
The strategy of Tibetans should be to start a world wide campaign against Chinese government’s methods and greed by appropriate public campaign which is bound to get media support and promote awareness in the world. Certainly, several friends of Tibet and sympathisers for Tibet’s cause and those who come to know about the plight of Tibetans due to this world wise campaign would come forward to support the campaign in one way or the other. All that is required is a trigger from Tibetans.
Today, China has the ambition of becoming world super power , which means it has to get international attention and sort of respect. The anti Chinese government campaign would certainly upset government of China and perhaps, make it reform it’s behavior and strategies. This could be the beginning point for ultimate liberation of Tibet from China’s control.
Aggressive global anti Chinese government campaign by Tibetans would be the right response for Chinese government’s aggressive and continued occupation of Tibet.

Martin Crowe played instrumental role in making New Zealand a force in world cricket

By Harsh Thakor* Late Martin Crowe was the perfect manifestation of how mere figures could not convey or do justice to the true merit of a batsman. He perished 7 years ago, due to a rare and aggressive form of cancer, follicular lymphoma, which originated in 2012. Regretful: Kapil Dev retired not leaving Indian cricket with integrity he upheld

By Harsh Thakor  Kapil Dev scaled heights as an entertainer and a player upholding the spirit of the game almost unparalleled in his era. In his time he was cricket’s ultimate mascot of sportsmanship On his day Kapil could dazzle in all departments to turn the tempo of game in the manner of a Tsunami breaking in. He radiated r energy, at a level rarely scaled in his era on a cricket field. Few ever blended aggression with artistry so comprehenisively. Although fast medium, he could be as daunting with the ball as the very best, with his crafty outswinger, offcutter, slower ball and ball that kicked from a good length. Inspite of bowling on docile tracks on the subcontinent, Kapil had 434 scalps, with virtually no assistance. I can never forget how he obtained pace and movement on flat pancakes, trapping the great Vivian Richards in Front or getting Geoff Boycott or Zaheer Abbas caught behind. No paceman carried the workload of his team’s bowling attack on his shoulders in his eras muc

Ceasefire a tactical victory for Palestinian resistance, protests intensify across globe

By Harsh Thakor*  The Zionist leadership and Netanyahu’s government were compelled to concede the defeat of their first attempt after almost 50 days of daily fighting in the Gaza Strip.  Netanyahu was forced to concede that he was unsuccessful in suppressing the Palestinian Resistance; and that the release of the prisoners was only plausible because they accepted Hamas’ terms.

Odisha leadership crisis deepens: CM engages retired babus to oversee depts' work

By Sudhansu R Das  Over decades, Odisha has lost much of its crop diversity, fertile agriculture land, water bodies, employment potential, handicraft and handloom skills etc. The state has failed to strike a balance between the urban and rural sector growth; this leads to the migration of villagers to the urban areas leading to collapse of the urban infrastructures and an acute labor shortage in rural areas.  A large number of educated, skilled and unskilled Odia people have migrated to other states for higher education, quality jobs and for earning livelihood which plummet the efficiency level of government departments. Utmost transparency in the recruitment and promotion in the state government departments will improve governance mechanisms in the state.  "No near and dear one approach" in governance mechanisms can only achieve inclusive growth for the state on payment basis. This is a moral hazard. When so many educated young people seek employment outside the

1982-83 Bombay textile strike played major role in shaping working class movement

By Harsh Thakor  On January 18th, 1982 the working class movement commemorated the 40th anniversary of the Textile Workers Strike that lasted for 18 months, till July 1983. It was landmark event that played a major role in shaping the working class movement. With more than 2.5 lakh workers from 65 textile mills joining in this strike for almost two years, this strike became one of the most significant strikes in terms of scale and duration All democrats should applaud the mill workers’ united battle, and their unflinching resilience an death defying courage continues to serve as a model for contemporary working-class movements. Many middle class persons harboured opinions that the Textile workers were pampered or were a labour aristocracy, ignorant of how they were denied wages to provide for basic necessities. The Great Bombay Textile Strike is notably one of the most defining movements in the working class struggles in Post-independent India. Bombay’s textile industry flourished in
