On the occasion of the martyrdom day of Vasantrao Hegiste and Rajabali Lakhani, known for their sacrifice in the spirit of communal harmony, the Movement for Secular Democracy (MSD), in collaboration with Sevadal, Aapnu Mandal, and various civil society groups, organized commemorative events in Ahmedabad.
The primary tribute ceremony was held at their memorial site in Khando ni Sheri, Jamalpur, where several local leaders and representatives participated. Notable among them were veteran journalist and MSD Convenor Shri Prakash N. Shah, MSD Secretary Shri Dwarkanath Rath, Shri Mahadev Vidrohi and Shri Neetaben Mahadev from Gujarat Lok Samiti, and Dr. Raghavan Rangarajan representing PUCL. The gathering featured heartfelt speeches alongside songs that celebrated communal solidarity.
Following this, another program took place at the mazar (shrine) of Rajabali at the Gomatipur Chhartoda graveyard. This event saw participation from MSD volunteers, local municipal corporators Shri Iqbalbhai Sheikh and Shri Zulfikarkhan Pathan, and residents from the community. A floral tribute was offered at the mazar as a mark of respect.
The events reaffirmed the values of communal harmony and the importance of remembering those who stood for secular democracy.
