Maha Shivratri carries profound spiritual importance ,serving as a time for devotees to fervently pray and meditate and seek divine blessings of Lord Shiva.
The essence of Hindu philosophy is that it asks everyone to introspect and meditate and realise the state of divinity (which is also termed as bliss or anandha) in the inner self. Obviously, this means that Maha Shivratri day should be observed with introspective thoughts on origin and end of life and the devotees are expected to pray for peace and tranquillity to gain ultimate state of absolute mental bliss, which is all that humans can achieve in this world.
Instead of being a night for prayer and meditation in silence, Isha Foundation in Coimbatore converted Shivratri into sort of dance show, largely in the Bollywood style with thousands of participants jumping and dancing to the tune and rhythm of the noisy music . Unfortunately, the great Hindu devotional prayers have been misused to conduct this music and dance show. Certainly, there is no sanctity in this . This is the way how Maha Shivratri should not be observed.
Any true and well informed Hindu would feel disgusted to see this noisy show with thousands of rich and affluent participants, attending the programme, as if they are celebrating a club event of pomp and show.
In short , Maha Shivratri organised by Isha Foundation can be viewed as an event that has ridiculed the glorious Hindu ethos and tenets of Hindu philosophy.
